Updates to Zoom link / meeting setup
I just updated the settings on y’all’s monthly Zoom meeting to allow “join before host”. What this will do is let everyone in so you can hold the meeting without technically *starting* it.
The drawback is without a host, no one can share their screen or kick anyone out (which matters if you get zoom bombed). But the benefit is you can just blissfully hold meetings without knowing why it works – until you need to know (hence this message).
Ideally you should still log in as zoom@cmaaz.org to start the meeting formally.
Non-hosts will only be able to get in directly by using the link with the embedded passcode – so either visit the group here or on the meeting list to click the link, or copy and save it directly out of one of those two places. Otherwise, you’ll need the passcode.
On that note, I just changed the passcode to ‘1212’ because it’s super easy to remember, but that means it regenerated the link, so if you saved it before, you’ll need to save it again. I will update the public meeting list and of course the unity hub is always in sync.

Thank you very much, Mikester!

One other question. When you indicated that you have changed the passcode to “1212,” you aren’t referring to the login password of Tweaker@001, are you?

That wouldn’t be something I would post openly, I would privately notify the zoom@cmaaz.org mailing list instead, so no. I’m referring to the passcode that people have to enter in lieu of a waiting room, if they haven’t clicked through the invitation link that bypasses it. On zoom, a meeting *must* always be protected with either a passcode or a waiting room. In practice, we mostly share the link with the embedded passcode that bypasses it, so you don’t notice this. So it’s the kind of thing you don’t need, until you do (for example, if you email the link to someone whose email client removes what it thinks is a tracking code).
